Wasted Tax Dollars go to Promoting Partisan Political Perspectives #SHAME

July 30, 2019

Received this in today’s mail. My MP using tax dollars to criticize the Harper Government — four years after they were turfed from office. If this doesn’t violate The Canadian Elections Act or the MPs Members Bylaw, then the law needs to be changed.

POETIC JUSTICE

Quebec Kippah, Turban, Hijab Wearers to Receive Discount

To commemorate the 120th birthday of Frank Scott(1899 – 1985), organizers of the Frank Scott Poetry Day(Thursday August 1) will employ poetic justice to denounce Quebec’s Bill 21, a law that discriminates against citizens who wear articles as part of their religion.

Frank(F.R.) Scott was a poet, Dean of law at McGill University, social democrat, civil rights litigator, and co-author of Quebec’s Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

To honour Scott’s belief in Freedom of Religion, people wearing a kippah, a turban, a niqab or hijab, or other articles of a religious nature will receive a 50% discount for afternoon workshops.

“In my opinion, this discriminatory law is wholly repugnant to the values Frank Scott stood for,” says J.J. Lokshtanov, event organizer.

The action is in response to Quebec’s Act Respecting the Laicity of the State, which was enacted to operate outside of Canada’s and Quebec’s Human Rights legislation.

Participants of the workshops, held at the Greene Centre, 1090 Greene Avenue, will be invited to share their writing at an evening reading.

2 – 3:30 PM Mark Yakich Workshop, Serious Play: Generating and Revising Poetry with Surrealist Techniques

4 – 5:30 PM George Elliott Clarke Workshop, Becoming the Acknowledged Legislators of the World Workshop (Writing with Passion)

7:15 PM Reading with George Elliott Clarke, the Charter Poets, and others.
