The School Board Meeting Fell On The Night Snow

December 17, 2014

(A villanelle inspired by an EMSB meeting)

The school board meeting fell on the night snow

returned with revenge upon this poet’s heart

In the name of learning I chose to go.

Step after step my boot sank below

The effort gave my cardio a start

The school board meeting fell on the night snow.

The big brass barrier I opened slow

My forearm muscle nearly tore apart

In the name of learning I chose to go.

In council chambers not a single chair no

not one for me. But I remained stalwart

The school board meeting fell on the night snow.

At question period I asked, Hello? Hello?

To get their attention I threw a dart

In the name of learning I chose to go.

When the Chair dodged the dart striking her pillow

I learned that to duck is pretty damn smart

The school board meeting fell on the night snow

In the name of learning I chose to go.

An Old Poet Stops By A Bakery

December 1, 2014

by Jack Locke

Whose words these are I think I know

They bear the bulge of baker’s glow

There is no need to be austere

I dream much cream be free to flow.

For pastry is poetry here

It brings happiness and such cheer

Love of custard make no mistake

Is sweet basis of my career.

Each morning after I awake

A mixer combines angelic cake

Before forenoon it loses heat

When freshly frosted I partake.

The scent of baked goods true a treat

The sound of poems blessèd beat

Blending of both makes life complete

Blending of both makes life complete.
